WELCOME

Deep Roots Adventures goal is to provide all the skills and tools needed for individuals, families, groups, youth become capable and confident in the wild. Our team is made up of experienced outdoor leaders, interpretive guides, fabulous accomodations and amazing local adventure partners. All of our workshops, trips and outfitting are based out of our new Adventure Hub, in the  heart of Wilberforce, Highlands East, Ontario – right at the gateway to untapped adventure!

Adventure Hub Hours

*Speak with staff about rental returns after hub hours.  Special group bookings can be made outside of hub hours/days.*

Deep Roots Adventures offers various workshops to help you feel capable and confident to go on an adventure in the wild.  These workshops are perfect for the complete newbie wanting to give camping a try or for those wanting to brush up on thier skills and learn some new ones.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL
WORKSHOP

Anyone who enjoys the outdoors should have a survival course under their belt to ensure they are ready when the unexpected happens.  Preparedness is key!  So whether you are an avid hunter, angler, skier, or just love an amble through your own ‘back 40’, these courses are for you! Even if you are not a regular adventurer, you may end up using these skills in an unexpected situation such as a plane crash, a car breakdown, or an urban disaster such as a blackout, tornado or flood.

TRIP PLANNING
WORKSHOP

This session is not for beginner campers or paddlers, but those who are ready to take an overnight, or several day outtrip.During these workshops we teach you how to properly prepare for and plan your dream outtrip. Topics will include planning the route, with a focus on map, compass and GPS training, developing a route card, what to pack and how, food requirement planning and preparation and more. This workshop is offered in various session options.

LEARN TO CAMP
WORKSHOP

This safe, fun, confidence building course will allow you to learn to camp overnight in a Provincial Park, or other well maintained and fully serviced facility.  The course cost includes a campsite fee, tent, sleeping mat, cooking set, dish set and utensils, lantern, stove and other required equipment.  A kit list with things the student should bring will be sent with a detailed itinerary upon signing up for the course.  The goal of this workshop is to get you and your family confident in the outdoors.

NAVIGATION
WORKSHOP

Our Navigation Workshops are designed to increase confidence and comfort when navigating during outdoor activities. We cover critical skills such as reading and utilizing a topographical map, trail maps, and effectively using a compass and protractor.  Students will learn about grid references, bearings, pacing, how to create a route card and will have an opportunity to practice skills, hands on in a wilderness environment. This workshop is offered in various session options.

GUIDED ADVENTURES

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS – NO STRESS

Choose from one of our favourite trips in Algonquin Park, Silent Lake, High Falls and Highlands East.  Enjoy a guided trip hiking, canoeing, swimming – or even horseback riding! All of our Guided Adventures include a fabulous lunch.  When a group books we will send a survey that will cover preferences, intolerance, allergies, and what the group is selecting.  You will be pleasantly surprised by just how ‘glamp’ this meal really is. 

OUTFITTING

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO LAUNCH YOUR ADVENTURE

Get the gear (and even meals!) you need to have a successful adventure, whether it be car camping, a paddling trip or a backpacking adventure.  Deep Roots Adventure provides a wide selection of rental gear and camp meals to go. Our fully cooked, frozen meals are ready to warm and eat – or enjoy them cold. On our online registration portal you can pay and pre-book meals at the same time you book your gear. 

GEAR RENTAL

Get the gear you need to have a successful adventure, whether it be car camping, a paddling trip, or a backpacking adventure. Check out our selection of rental gear including canoes, tents, sleeping bags and mats, stoves, dishes, seats, bug netting, canoe packs, barrels and more. Other sundries and kit can be purchased at the Hub when you pick up your rentals.

FUEL YOUR ADVENTURE

Our meals to go include Vegetarian Chili, Seasonal Soups, Roast Chicken Dinner, Mac & Cheese, and Beef Stew. How about a hearty, chunky, potato hash with smoked sausage and mild Hungarian Chabie with diced onion and peppers. What a way to start the day! Also available will be a selection of dehydrated and freeze dried foods for those of you looking to keep your load light.

SCHOOL TRIPS

Custom Field Trips for School Groups

Deep Roots Adventure loves to put together field trips for school groups! Whether you are Montessori or Grade 12, we will work with you to create a custom day, within your budget, and to meet your curriculum requirements.  We do the time consuming part, the planning and preparation, and you and your class come out and enjoy. Our programs are fully mobile which means that our team can come to you and have an awesome day out at a local wilderness area, conservation area, or even a wooded park. This saves bussing costs and travel time for you. Less travel = more fun! (Especially for those really young ones.) Older groups may want to come up to our area and see the world famous Algonquin Provincial Park or have a Survival Workshop on a piece of beautiful crown land. CORINA MANSFIELD
Owner/Operator

Corina is an outdoors instructor trained with the Canadian Forces Reserves, Cadet Instructor Cadre, holding the rank of Lieutenant. She is a Naturalist, is Wilderness First Aid qualified and is a certified Hike Leader (Hike Ontario), a Flat Water Canoe Instructor, Mountain Bike Instructor, and specializes in teaching Survival and Navigation.

KARIN ASCHENBRENNER
Instructor/Guide

A founding member of Deep Roots Adventure, Karin, a First Aid Instructor, specializes in cold weather camping, leadership, survival, navigation and much more.  She is a Captain with the Canadian Forces Reserves, Cadet Instructor Cadre, and is a volunteer Fire Fighter with the local Highlands East Fire Department.

NICOLE BYLOW
Administrator/Assistant Guide

Nicole is our fabulous Administration Assistant! With a degree in English and love of Marketing, she helps keep our ship afloat! Nicole also loves getting outside, and helps us facilitate our outdoor programs and sweeping hikes! She is strong, motivated and hilarious!

ELLA MAE HALL
Hub Guru and Gramamma Bear

You will find Ella wo-manning the Adventure Hub. She is a fount of knowledge on the area and you will often find her fishing, knitting awesome things, canning yummy things, or helping to ID flora and fauna.

LACEY PIPER
Instructor/Guide

Lacey is an experienced guide and instructor, specializing in Equine Therapy and Naturalism! As an Ecology Guru she loves teaching our students all about nature! As an artist Lacey leads everyone from day campers to corporate groups in amazing collaborative and individual art pieces.

MATT WHITE
Instructor/Guide

Matt is an experienced instructor and guide, specializing in expedition skills and leadership development. He is a fitness specialist, proficient in paddling, mountain biking, and hiking who loves guiding and teaching everyone from Kinders to corporate.

AMANDA MCKENZIE
AM/PM Outdoor Gourmet

Amanda owns AM/PM Outdoor Gourmet, and is a key member of our team, providing amazing, delicious, nutritious meals for our guided adventures, workshops, and events!  You can find Amanda’ s products with us on the trail, or in the Hub!

CASSIE & BAXTER
Chief Cuddle Officers

You may come across one or both of the Deep Roots Fur Balls at the Adventure Hub!  They are friendly, energetic and love love love hiking, camping and paddling! We are dog friendly, so please feel free to bring your well behaved pooched into the Adventure Hub with you.  What’s next?  Getting our cats hiking with us too!!
